Story Of JaRoddo

It has always been a dream of Jarod to have his own clothing brand. After all, it runs in the family to be entrepreneurial. Jarod was 7 years old when he already said he wanted to be as big as Tommy Hilfiger. Jarod grew older and older. He started working, saved all his money to achieve his goal (about 2100 euros) and was about 16 years old when he really wanted to start his own brand. It was December 18, 2019 when Jarod sat there with his mother, at the table with a printing company, hoping and negotiating a deal. In these two gap years, Jarod had a lot of insecurities about the designs he had designed. In the end, everything was settled with zero business experience. The first JaRoddo shirts were printed. A total of 36 white and 30 black Muscle-fit T-Shirts at a price of approximately €2000.

JaRoddo received the shirts and was told by many friends that his designs were cool and that she definitely wanted to buy a shirt. JaRoddo wanted to sell a shirt for 35 euros in order to make a little profit nor to be too expensive. The JaRoddo website was finished and the products were online, but zero orders? huh? But everyone wanted to buy a shirt, right? Is there something wrong with the website? Or are the designs not so beautiful after all?

Jarod put his shirts in the discount immediately 5 days after the release to actually get a part of that 2000 euros back, but still create brand awareness. Two weeks later, Jarod FINALLY got his first order and gave away a lot of shirts so that people would see the name 'JaRoddo' everywhere and start researching what JaRoddo actually was.

Six weeks and four orders later, Jarod began to doubt himself. Good school friend S of Jarod had run into old friends (K and F) of theirs. They said, 'bro who the f*ck is Jarod? Who's going to help him? He has no one! He thinks it's easy and his clothes are f*cking ugly! He won't be there anyway, hahaha who does he think he is?'

That's when Jarod really started to doubt himself. 'What am I doing this for? Am I a good entrepreneur? Don't people like me? Do they think my designs are ugly? Are my prices too expensive for a shirt? Should I stop?!'

Jarod woke up the next day, stood in the shower and thought about what he could do to keep his business running a bit. What could Jarod do? In the shower, Jarod had an ingenious idea. 'Why don't I just print my clothes myself with a screen printing machine? You can just buy it online, right?'

After another month of hard work and saving money, Jarod had bought a second-hand manual screen printing machine worth €389.99. Jarod went looking for wholesalers and always looked for the cheapest place to buy clothes to achieve his goal.

Coincidentally, Jarod's father knew a Pakistani man from the market who sold navy blue and burgundy hoodies very cheaply. The Pakistani entrepreneur showed Jarod a very nice burgundy hoodie in the store that looked good quality. Jarod told the Pakistani man that he immediately wanted to buy 100 hoodies at 4 euros each. Jarod now owned 50 burgundy hoodies and 50 navy blue hoodies. By means of the screen printing machine that Jarod had bought and because Jarod had found a wholesaler, he was able to make his designs a reality and put several items online on his website for much less money.

Two weeks later, Jarod and his models A and J had met in the city to take pictures of the hoodies. A Fun Photoshoot later, this was a very pleasant and successful day with the two models of JaRoddo.

In the same week, Jarod sold 6 hoodies for €20.

Four weeks later, Jarod had sold 22 hoodies. Very happy and proud, Jarod continued his business.

Until JaRoddo got his first bad review. 'Broo that hoodie broke when I put my head through it the first time! I won't get anything from you anyway, with your poor quality!'

huh? What's going on here again? Jarod checked the hoodies and saw that there were holes in the hoodies and that they were not properly finished.

Jarod immediately called the Pakistani market man and said that he had sold me poor quality and that he gave me a lot of hoodies that were broken, to which he replied: 'You destroyed yourself, everything has left here completely so you can't take me there. to blame'.

Out of anger, Jarod had given away about 25 of the remaining hoodies he had left and put the rest in a garbage bag and returned it to the man without making an appointment. Many altercations later, Jarod got 60 euros back for 30 hoodies. The remaining hoodies that remained, Jarod immediately gave to a foundation for children who have no clothes.

Another setback later, Jarod thought, "You know what, just leave it all alone." He sold his screen printing machine for 100 euros and he said to himself: 'At least I tried, I'll just continue working at the company where I was working at the time and I'm just going to save'.

August 7, 2020 was the day when school friend D came to Jarod and said he had started his own business. Jarod told him that he is doing well and that he is well. He then asked Jarod where he had printed his clothes. To which Jarod replied that he should not print it in the same place where Jarod himself has been. When school friend D went home, Jarod went home to see how printing really works and what equipment you need.

Jarod texted school friend D and said he would like to have his clothes printed, because Jarod still wanted to try it. Jarod asked his parents if they could lend him money, because those devices were still quite expensive and Jarod had already wasted all his money when he had his own brand.

Jarod's parents bought the machines for Jarod because they still believed in him. A week later, school friend D's clothes were ready and Jarod promoted the prints on his social media. Not even a week later, Jarod suddenly received an email from famous rapper Ismo. He asked if Jarod wanted to make a rush order for his music video. This was successful and Jarod had earned another few hundred euros. Because Ismo had printed at JaRoddo, many people had asked if they could also print something.

As a result, the orders only increased and JaRoddo only became bigger and more famous. Everything went well! Until…

On November 18, 2020, Jarod's mother had suffered a fatal accident. With the power of God she survived this in the nick of time. This gave Jarod another setback, because he didn't know where to look at that moment.

Now that JaRoddo was going harder and harder, Jarod couldn't disappoint his customers either and Jarod worked his way through until July 19, 2021.

Jarod couldn't take any more and he was completely exhausted. July 19 was the day that Jarod went on vacation to Prague for a few days with his two best friends (C and P). These days were really what Jarod needed at the time to unwind.

During these few days of vacation, Jarod and his assistant S were looking online at possible larger workspaces for JaRoddo. Jarod and her assistant had gone to many places and had gone to great lengths to visit properties that appealed to us. Buttt… On August 27, 2021, Jarod and his assistant went together to a property owner in Zaandam. In the end we succeeded in making sure that we can all sit in the building together with the property owner and two other boys.

From November 1, 2021, JaRoddo will be working at Penningweg 43, 1507 DE in Zaandam.
